Record of the Ages CD Lyrics
September 6, 2010
Record of the Ages It was written long before time began, released from the halls of ages past. As the angels sang, the universe was born. They sang for Him through whom all came to be. From the first man and his wife in garden fair, to the toil and pain that ravaged down from sin, from the year the world was purged by heaven’s rain, to the hope that rose anew through Abraham. It’s the record of the ages, it’s charting history’s course, it’s telling us the places that we’ve been. It’s filled with living phrases so pertinent to life. The message of salvation is its theme, oh, listen to the record of the ages. Then Moses penned the laws of the land, and with kings and prophets spoke of things to come. Then a voice cried out in the wilderness, at the coming of the Singer of the song. With the concert done, the Star had left the stage; but His friends just wouldn’t let the music die. What verse are you writing to the tune? There’s an endless encore coming with the clouds! (chorus) Sing along with the record of the ages.
Sustainer Consider the flowers of the field. They neither toil nor spin, and yet He is working to clothe them, He is Sustainer of all things. Consider the birds on the wing, and how they look to God for food. And still He is working to feed them, He is Sustainer of all things. Every living creature, every human being, He is Sustainer of all things. Everything with life and breath, even you and me, He is Sustainer of all things. He stes the sun upon its course from the east unto the west. He gives His faithful servants all they need and they are blessed! He is Sustainer of all things. Consider the work that He’s begun in every daughter and son, and how He is working to complete us in Christ, He is Sustainer of all things. Every living creature, every human being, He is Sustainer of all things. Everything with life and breath, even you and me, He is Sustainer of all things. Every blooming meadow, every budding tree, He is Sustainer of all things. Every soaring eagle, every buzzing bee, He is Sustainer of all things. Every swimming creature that frolics in the sea, He is Sustainer of all things. Every flowing river that’s rushing to the sea, He is Sustainer of all things. Everything with life and breath, even you and me, He is Sustainer of all things. The radiance of God’s glory, the image of His being, He is Sustainer of all things. Sustainer of all things.
Reconciled to Thee I Am Dead in my trespasses and sin, with darkness my abode. Rebellious was my heart within, in wicked ways I strode. Reconciled to Thee I am, no longer kin to death. True Light of light, I follow Thee, and Thou dost grant me rest. Like Jacob have I wrestled Thee, with worldy skill and might. Did count Thee as mine enemy, and fled from Thee in fright; but reconciled to Thee I am; no longer foe but Friend. Beloved, Master, Savior, Lord, art with me till the end. Now peace with Thee is my dear song, the cross taught me to sing. Diverting all the wrath of God; destroying death’s dark sting. Reconciled to Thee I am, no terror now I dread; but render love and praise and works through Christ, my living head. Reconciled to Thee I am; no longer foe but Friend. Beloved, Master, Savior, Lord, art with me till the end.
Welcome the Spirit? Beyond the spectral veil there is a ghost that I have seen; dancing in the distance in a land that I have dreamed. He hovers overhead us in a bright and blazing flame; giving us the power to live in Jesus’ name. Tongues of fire we don’t understand, an arsenal there at His command, putting on the whole armor, there’s no reason left to hide. Welcome the Spirit, oh, come and abide, to comfort and to stir up the gift that’s inside. An all consuming fire, oh, fan the flame high. Welcome the Spirit; for He is my guide. Between the point of jubilee and the point of last despair, hang all the earthly treasures I’ve carved without a care. They melt down in the fire and fall down in the storm, and try to feign a substance with a holographic form. In the balance as I can tell; point of inflection ‘tween heav’n and hell; what this world gives it only rusts away, so my treasure’s with the Lord. (chorus) Whatever things are bound on earth are surely bound above, wherever sin abounds on earth, we must abound in love. He constantly reminds us we are never alone, and leads us in our calling till the Father’s work is done. So pray in the Spirit as you have heard. Heaven waits for us to act upon His word; we’re powerless without sustenance, don’t let the Spirit wind subside. (chorus)
Joy of the Lord Well, I know what it’s like to be discouraged, and I know what it’s like to face hard times, yes I know what it’s like to suffer affliction, yes I do; but I know what it’s like to find my joy in the Lord. I wanna tell ya right now for the record that there’s a Savior, I wanna tell ya right now for the record that Jesus is Lord, I wanna tell ya right now He’ll come back and take me with Him, ‘cause like it says in Nehemiah, the joy of the Lord is my strength. Well, there’s nothin’ in life that compares with the joy of the Lord, I said there’s nothin’ in life that compares to the joy of the Lord. When I trust and obey Him my joy is complete and despite all I am that joy is my strength, and there’s nothin’ in life that compares with the joy of the Lord. That’s why I’ll yell and I’ll beam; I’ll tell and I’ll scream; I’ll cry and I’ll gloat, I’ll sigh and I’ll boast of my weakness. That’s why I’ll take all my pride and set it aside, and count it all loss for the sake of the cross of my Lord. You see, like Paul I’m convinced, there’s nothin’ exists, not height nor depth nor life, neither death separates me, from the love, gracious love of my God, that’s revealed in His Son. (chorus)
When I Look in your Word Jesus, once again I’m calling out to You. Here I am, needy and helpless, I need to hear from You. I’ve exhausted all the foolish means I manufactured on my own. How blind could I be not to do the one thing I’ve needed from the start. When I look in Your word, I find a priceless jewel recorded there for me. When I look in Your word, the comfort and joy before had gone unheard. Now You’ve led me to this place of quiet time. I’m humbled how You speak to me when I look in Your word. Now I’m resting here as I feast upon Your word. It’s living bread, a wellspring of life, a stream that won’t run dry. Now I’m learning to turn to You and not turn to the world; abiding in You; by Your truth in me I truly am set free. (chorus) Let Your word shine forth turning the night to day, take root in my life, grow strong in my heart, and bear fruit in me, in me! (chorus)
Fervent Prayer My needs You always understand, You meet me where I am. I’m bowed before Your throne of grace, I only seek Your face. You’re always there to hear my fervent prayer. In times like these, when my heart bleeds, down on my knees, I know You see, I know You care; You hear my fervent prayer. Sometimes there are no words to say, but on my knees I’ll stay, and when the Spirit takes the lead, He always intercedes. He knows what’s best; recalls what I forget. In comfort’s rest, I know that I am truly blessed, for Lord I know You’re always there, You hear my fervent prayer. And when I pray for other’s needs, it’s like a fragrant offering, and knowing that, how my heart sings, it’s Your love in me! Heavenly Father, I believe, You are the God who sees, and so as Jesus has taught me, I’ll pray authentically and speak my mind; desires I’ll not hide; confess my sins; knowing You always forgive, Lord, to You in praise I’ll live, I’m thankful Lord, please be aware this is my fervent prayer, You hear my fervent prayer.
Nothing but the Blood# What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Oh! precious is the flow that makes me white as snow; no other fount I know, nothing but the blood of Jesus. For my pardon, this I see, nothing but the blood of Jesus; for my cleansing this my plea, nothing but the blood of Jesus. (Refrain) Nothing can for sin atone, nothing but the blood of Jesus. Naught of good that I have done, nothing but the blood of Jesus. (Refrain) This is all my hope and peace, nothing but the blood of Jesus. This is all my righteousness, nothing but the blood of Jesus. (Refrain) Now by this I’ll overcome, nothing but the blood of Jesus. Now by this I’ll reach my home, nothing but the blood of Jesus. (Refrain)
Add Up All Your Pain† Can anyone bear a pain equal to Christ’s? Can anyone bear a trial compared to His sacrifice? Could you bear to carry your own cross? And take those nails in your own hands? And after all, could you bear to stand? Add up all your pain and see if you are tough. Add up all your pain; see if it’s quite enough. Add up all your pain – does it equal Christ’s sacrifice? Can anyone bear a pain equal to Christ’s? Can anyone bear a trial compared to His sacrifice? Could you bear to be mocked and jeered? And hung out to dry? And could you bear to be crucified? Do you know the Prince of Glory died, And after He was crucified, He was glorified. Do you know the Prince of Glory died, And after He was crucified, He was glorified, And on the third rose again? And on the third day showed Himself to men? Can anyone bear a pain and know the harm? Can anyone just accept that pain with open arms? Could you bear to look down from above? And shower those who scoff with love? When none of them understand your sacrifice? When none of them understand the love of Jesus Christ? Add up all your pain and see if you are tough. Add up all your pain; see if it’s quite enough. Add up all your pain – does it equal Christ’s sacrifice?
Emmaus Road Whistling Song (Alive and Risen) I am a life He’s given, I am alive and livin’, He is alive and living, He is alive and risen, oh, I am a life He’s given, I am alive and livin’, He is alive and living, He is alive and risen, oh yeah. Don’t ever let your heart be troubled, don’t ever let your heart be troubled, don’t ever let your heart be, no way. (chorus) Don’t ever let you thoughts be anxious… Don’t ever let you face be saddened… (chorus)
North Star* You are like the North Star, never moving, ever steady, and if I follow you, I will be free. So let me chase You, oh, Perfect Light, let me run after the Truth so I can see. I will escape from my masters to sweet Canaan land, no longer a slave, I will flee to Your hands. Yes, I will escape from my captors and follow that bright North Star. I want the only shadow to be the one I leave behind, and when I turn to You, I will be free. I want to shine with a radiance that will cause another’s trust to ensue. (chorus) I do as You desire when I continue in the way, but still Your love is with me even when I stray. Let me do as You desire and continue in the Way, since You’ve forgiven me, I can say, I will escape from my masters, to sweet Canaan land, no longer a slave, I will flee to Your hands. Yes, I will escape from my masters, to sweet Canaan land, no longer a slave, I will flee to Your hands, and I will escape from my captors, step out in the dark, and follow that bright North Star; follow that bright North Star.
City of the Lamb Walkin’ down a street of God, a stream on my left, a tree on my right. Looking up I see the Book of Life. A gathering of angels vast, and righteous men made perfect by His might. His face is filled with inexpressible light. This is my Father’s throne, my eternal home. This new heaven, this new earth, this new Jerusalem is the city of the Lamb, the city of the Lamb. Excited as He calls my name to claim the prize; receive the crown of life; His gift to me he purchased when He died. I see His nail-pierced hands, and then I hear Him say, “Well done, my faithful friend. Enter into joy today!” This is my Father’s throne, my eternal home. This new heaven, this new earth, this new Jerusalem is the city of the Lamb, the city of the Lamb
Unconditional Love There’s only one kind of real love for which each person yearns. The kind of love that gives and gives without an ounce returned. A question I’ve asked about this love, could it be so great I wonder, that neither trial nor tribulation could ever set asunder? The answer I know is yes, indeed, for in my times of trouble, this was the love I chose to give, and help came on the double. There’s one more thing about this love that I know is tried and true. It’s the love that God keeps giving me and the love I give to you, the love I give to you.
