Charles performed at REV Coffeehouse and debuted a new song called North Star, written and sung with Mamie Carlstrom. The song is about the history of escaping slaves following the North Star to freedom from bondage, and is an allegory of following Christ to spiritual freedom. Here’s an instrumental clip of the tune (vocals not yet recorded). The Carlstrom clan joined in on Lu Lu Lani. REV is located in Smyrna, GA.
Lu Lu Lani, Lu Lu Lani, where’d your brother go? All I see is a little monkey swingin’ from his toes!

6.12.08 One of Charles’s earliest recordings was made in 1982 as a college freshman at the Purdue University Chapel with nothing more than a portable tape recorder. If these lyrics don’t express youthful optimism, what does? Perhaps we could all use a bit more of that these days. In retrospect, the composer sees that loving life is fulfilled in loving and serving the God who gives and creates it. Here are a few cuts from that recording in their entirety.
